You have been a wonderful instructor! I have read all the information you so generously posted, reviewed pictures of arm sites, and purchased Radio Shack wireless mike. We are on day 3 of our first sensor (inserted in the arm last Tuesday), and I hope to get more days yet out of this sensor. Our initial sensor is and has been extremely accurate. Now I am reading your common sense explanations of why you, the parent, will determine what is in the best medical interests of your child instead of allowing the child to make the determination. Isn't that the way it has always been with other chronic illnesses? Why is diabetes the one condition where the child is allowed to determine protocol? We must keep our eyes on the long-term goal, not short-term problems such as "discomfort." We had no problems with site insertion, she did not even flinch. Her arm was a little sore for six hours afterwards but MM Nurse/CDE insisted we use the 45 degree angle on insertion so that was to be expected. The question to ask is: Can you control BS variations well without this device? We absolutely cannot! We have been living with Type 1 for two and a half years and this is the first light in the tunnel of darkness I have seen. I am going to follow the light. The complications of Type 1 are more than uncomfortable. Our only hope is to keep blood sugars in as normal a range as we can possibly get them. Thanks again, for clarifying a sticky issue. No I do not "hate" you, I thank you for your common sense advice.

LOL... Know what it is called, or where to find info on it? My two middle boys wet the beds. I too hate goodnights, my kids leak through them anyways, so we have a few different things in place, but I'd love to have a way to not have to do it all anymore. We have to have a fleece blanket on top of their sheets because fleece doesn't absorb well. Then under that there is the sheet, and a pad, and the bottom layer before the matress is a waterproof sheet. The pad was supposed to be ater proof, but RC Willey's lied in what they said it could do.....

That is so awesome. I am just so happy for you guys!!! We eventually put Julia in therapy because she just doesn't feel normal. She feels so seperated from her peers. Have you talked about this with the endo, CDE, or children's life specialist?

What about talking about it with H on a day that isn't a site change day? Maybe she could give you some insite on what you can do to help her feel better about site changes. I know this view isn't a popular one, but what really helped me was to talk to Julia about what happens if she doesn't get her insulin. Realistically. It wont be possible to hold her down forever, and I know how scary that is to be trying to get your moving, fighting child with a sharp. I really hope you guys can find something to help....

Take care, Jamie

*sigh* such a hassle sometimes, and all the while ...

*sigh* such a hassle sometimes, and all the while you worry about what the BG is doing.
They get sick of it sometimes, as I would too. As adults, I imagine that they will, at some point, decide not to change a site, let the BG's run up high, and then figure out that they feel like crap and want to do a site change.
It would cost us our kids to do that now.
Sometimes I wait for Nolan to have a bg on the lower side, and we do a site change then, and I let him have the pump off for an hour... and he will come to me.
Poor Hailey. It is so tough for kids to have D. I blog over at Six Until Me and am planning to start trialing my Dexcom CGMS next Monday. My daughter who is 6 3/4 refuses to try it yet, probably becuase I got it first and she doesn't want to do anything I ask do first.

Perhaps your daughter could write an honest paragraph or two about life with the CGMS vs. life with all those finger tests. My girl is really afraid of the insertion of the sensor, which I personally think doesn't hurt at all or at least less than infusion sets.

Anyway, thanks for the info!

Wendy
www.DiabetesSelfCare.blogspot.com

Hi!
